Original Photo

Renditions

After learning about how Mangelsen shoots i learned that there is not much major editing that influences his pictures, they are just strong, clear pictures. I thought that it would be difficult to go out and find nice settings in nature around burlington township but i found that there are several nice natural setting in township so i just began taking pictures. I didn't neccisarily try to recreate the picture exactly but one feature that i did try to recreate was the reflections of the setting on the water. I know that he also takes several panoramic photos so i tried to take a panoramic shot with the same concept of having the water reflect the setting. The only things that i feel is wrong with the picture is that i took the pivtures on a very overcast day whereas Mangelsen's photo is a very clear blue skied day.

Thomas D. Mangelson

Artist Bio: Thomas D. Mangelson, born in Nebraska, during his childhood learned to love nature and outdoor activities from his father, a love that is now a driving point in his photography. He began taking and selling his prints in the early 1970's with his brother and soon opened up his own nature art gallery. Before becoming a photographer, Mangelson studied business at the University of Nebraska, and later earned a bachelors degree at Doane College, but it was after these to stints that he went back to Nebraska to study what he really loved which was wildlife.

Artistic Background:  The Photography career started with Thomas Mangelson's fascination of flying birds and grew past that to all aspects of nature and wildlife. The inspiration behind his work comes from his love of nature, and photographs these images in order to try and share with the rest of the world nature from his point of view. The most famous work of Mangelson is called Polar Dance , even though this picture is listed as one of the 40 most important nature photographs of all time it has not changed his style of photography.

My Image: Wyoming on my mind. I selected this image because Thomas Mangelson takes amazing photographs and this is about the only one that i believe that I would have a chance of remaking. I think that his style is one that is straight forward, finding amazing settings and capturing the moment in order to share it with the rest of the world. I think that the most interesting thing about Mangelson is that he is taking picture of what he loved even as a child and is traveling the world taking pictures of some of the most amazing scenearies in the world. I am planning to recreate this picture by going around burlington township and trying to take the best pictures of nature possible. I intend possibly going into the woods and taking pictures of the setting in there.
