Thomas D. Mangelson
Artist Bio: Thomas D. Mangelson, born in Nebraska, during his childhood learned to love nature and outdoor activities from his father, a love that is now a driving point in his photography. He began taking and selling his prints in the early 1970's with his brother and soon opened up his own nature art gallery. Before becoming a photographer, Mangelson studied business at the University of Nebraska, and later earned a bachelors degree at Doane College, but it was after these to stints that he went back to Nebraska to study what he really loved which was wildlife.
Artistic Background: The Photography career started with Thomas Mangelson's fascination of flying birds and grew past that to all aspects of nature and wildlife. The inspiration behind his work comes from his love of nature, and photographs these images in order to try and share with the rest of the world nature from his point of view. The most famous work of Mangelson is called Polar Dance , even though this picture is listed as one of the 40 most important nature photographs of all time it has not changed his style of photography.
My Image: Wyoming on my mind. I selected this image because Thomas Mangelson takes amazing photographs and this is about the only one that i believe that I would have a chance of remaking. I think that his style is one that is straight forward, finding amazing settings and capturing the moment in order to share it with the rest of the world. I think that the most interesting thing about Mangelson is that he is taking picture of what he loved even as a child and is traveling the world taking pictures of some of the most amazing scenearies in the world. I am planning to recreate this picture by going around burlington township and trying to take the best pictures of nature possible. I intend possibly going into the woods and taking pictures of the setting in there.

Aperture: The aperture determines the amount of light is aloud to enter the lens. It is similar to the pupil in the human eye. The larger the aperture the more light is allowed in. Also the larger the aperture the more likely the picture is able to become blurry. The amount of light exposure in the camera will determine how light or dark the image is captured. The aperture is measured in different F-stops.

First Post
I like how the photographer was able to find a scene like this. I think it’s cool because it allows you to come up with reasons for why this person doesn’t like the police and because this could be a person who is using the title from Dr. Dre’s song. If someone who was just roaming the streets took this picture I thinks it would be cool to encounter scenes like this one I found this photo on flickr. If I were to try and recreate this image I think that it would be difficult in a sense of finding something like this.
I thought that this picture was interesting because of the way that it captured what looks to be a huge storm but is still riding on top of the ocean water. It looks like people are still enjoying their time on the beach while something destructive is behind them. I found this on flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/32002830@N06/5405310612/. I think it would be difficult to recreate an image like this because it’s not often you a see a storm come in like that. It was taken with a canon EOS 550D in New Holland, NL
